What I Want

Last Christmas Toby asked me what I wanted for Christmas. Most people know that art supplies of any sort will do me fine. But this time, I asked for something to play my CDs with. I can use the DVD/CD player on the TV, but it is a pain to work. I  wanted something that was handy and easy to use while I painted. Rather than getting me one, he dug an old boom box out of the barn, dusted it off and set it up in my art room. It worked for a week or so, but bit the dust - probably literally.  I had also found an old portable CD player that I hooked up to some speakers. That worked for about a week also. So I looked around online and at Walmart, and you can buy little boom boxes for pretty cheap these days, and that is what I asked for.  But no. Instead everyone told me how I could use my phone, download music, hook it up to speakers, etc. If we had internet, I could do this or that...Fine.

It seems like  I do this quite often. A few years ago when asked what I wanted, I said I wanted a kettle bell for exercising.  But when Toby took me to Academy to get one, he talked me into buying a whole set of weights that were not much more in price as the kettle bell. It seemed logical at the time. But I rarely use those weights. One time, I told him I wanted new shoes and told him what I wanted them for - flats, goes well with pants, dressier for teaching, comfy, etc. At the shoe store he talked me into buying some shoes that were okay, but not what I had been wanting exactly. I rarely wear those shoes.

So last week, Toby asked me what I wanted for my birthday. He said that my son, Bo, wanted to know. I said that I still wanted a boom box. Once again, I got all the well-meaning info on how to use my phone. Sigh. I said I would give it a try especially since we had internet now.

Monday was my birthday. I had a dentist appointment early on and then went to Walmart. While walking by the electronics, I had the thought, "Dang it! Why can't I just have a boom box like I want?" But I figured I would give the phone and internet a chance. Sigh.

Later on Monday when I opened my presents, Bo had gotten me a boom box that has the ability to play my CDs AND it works with your phone, too! I was so pleased. Yay! Now if Toby and I can just get past this flu or whatever we have.

You made me laugh. After all these years …. finally I buy what I want.

We had colds with cough for almost a month. No fever or anything else, just chest congestion. Gene can’t take any decongestants so he suffers more than me. Finally gone last week.

You will enjoy the boombox. I love my iTunes on my iMac to play music all mixed up from classical to old rock and country and Bolivian, etc. Since I haven’t been painting or going off by myself in the car I haven’t listened much lately. I went to the baseball game on Sunday alone and love my “tunes”. Two hours of my music.

Jo, I have to admit that I do buy for myself quite a bit. In fact today I treated myself to a massage with Ashley, one of my old art students and she also blogged for a little while. And I bought myself a new pair of jeans from LLBean. I could probably figure out the phone/music, but I have lots of CDs that I like too. Doing a mix of my music does sound nice, though.

Good to take care of yourself. I have about 20 albums that I haven't uploaded to my iTunes. Dang... It does take time but I like the variety. I like my old songs more than most of the new. Keep listening!
