Life this week was maybe a little more normal than in the past couple of months - whatever normal is. CTAC had meetings last week. This week, I went and helped out with some things at CTAC and attended one of the committee meetings. It felt good to get something accomplished and to hang out with people. Well, at the committee meeting there were those who thought we should still wear masks even though we were sitting well over 6 feet apart. We debated upcoming events - do we have them or not, or should we have the events and try to use healthy social distancing methods. Lots of conversation and arguments! By the end of the meeting I had taken my mask off and was sucking down my water.
Tuesday was GBN4's 5th birthday. He turned five on Cinco de Mayo. They decided not to do the usual family birthday party. I assume it was because my in-laws have some health issues, so they are pretty serious about this social distancing and with good reasons. I have lots of thoughts on this, but it was not my decision to make. We took a present to his house no matter what, but we did not get any cake or ice cream.
Last Sunday was the first time our church has met in person in over a month (a month of Sundays - ha!). Once again it was good to see people up close and personal. We had to sit every other aisle and skip chairs between people, but it worked fairly well. After church, however, people congregated in little groups to visit. I'm sure some people hugged. I just bumped elbows. People who felt like it was not a good idea to meet, did not have to meet and could listen in on the internet.
I had to go to Walmart at a normal time - later in the morning rather than my crack-of-dawn time. It was busier, but not too bad. I still like the early morning time. As the summer comes on, I think I will continue to go earlier just because of the heat, well, and the crowds.
Halliburton cut their workforce here in Duncan by 60% last week. That was tough on everyone. Toby thought he was going to be cut/laid off for sure. But he did not. In fact, they called him in this week and gave him more responsibility. Then a few days later things happened that, once again, made everyone feel the axe over their heads. More cuts could be coming.
Who knows what the future holds. Maybe this will get better and better. Maybe not. People on Facebook can say "See! I told you so!" one way or the other. Me, I'm just glad things are getting more normal.

The new normal, yes.
We went to our Texas Grill for breakfast on Sunday. They are doing 25%. There were about 8 of us in the place that holds about 150 people. They were so happy to see us. Ha. We aren’t supposed to go out being that we are old folks and I was surprised we weren’t carded and told to go home. Sigh… We have been getting as much takeout as we can eat from the local restaurants hoping they will stay and reopen. Hard on them. Our local Economic Development Association gave the locals some cash, it helped with a months rent.
Good to hear that Toby is still working. Retirement isn’t all bad, though.
Talk to you soon.
Jo, One of the things I did at CTAC was to call businesses and ask them to take out an ad in our playbill for the year. It is not expensive, but some business were really hurt during this odd time. I felt bad just asking, but we did offer to let them payout their ad. Most renewed their ads. As for retirement, well, that could still happen. Halliburton is wishy-washy right now.
