Deadlines

Next Saturday is the National Art Battle in Wichita Falls. The doors open at 6, which is when I will start my pre-battle painting, and the Battle begins at 7 PM. You can download the ap and watch and vote online. Jesse is working on having two paintings ready to go. I am working on figuring out what I want to paint. I had thought I would just paint my "Night Aspens" which I had planned on a while back and did not do. It is not Toby's favorite painting, but it is popular with some people who have seen my practice pieces. I am considering something new and different, especially since I have more than 20 minutes to paint. We will see.

There are only five more weeks of school - ten classes and one of them will be a final exam. I have enjoyed the teaching and the kids. I have even enjoyed the prep. Well, I enjoy reading about history and art, but I don't really like thinking about what I need to teach. So much to teach and so little time!

The manager from the Viridian Coffee in Chickasha called and asked if I wanted to hang my art  - be the artist of the month in April. Of course, I said I would. I have sold several pieces of art at Viridian Duncan this past month. Inventory reduction prices help mucho! I repainted several of my Art Battle practice pieces and sold them cheap. Yay! Toby loves it when I clean out the art closet. So what do I do? I sign up for another art battle and paint more paintings.

Last week I did a glaze fire in the kiln. Unfortunately, one of the shelves in the kiln broke and collapsed causing mugs to tough and stick together. I saved about twelve mugs and have maybe that many that can be re-glazed and fired again. Some were totally ruined - so very disappointing. That very same day, Viridian called and said they needed more mugs. I took them what I could, but I need to get busy and get some more made. I've been making my wine tumblers too.

Obviously, life had not slowed down. But soon, maybe.

Very exciting about the Battles. You both will do great, I have no doubt.

I’m glad your class is going well. I think people think teaching art is just a lark. They never see the hard work involved in planning, recording papers and the learning part. Congrats on doing well there, too.

Ahhh, shame about the mugs. I love the one I have. I use it mostly for tea with milk and hot chocolate. I’m anxious to hear about the wine cups we are gifting. They have the party on April 1 and 2. The turquoise ones went to Jennie. They really like them. We are having Brandon’s birthday celebration on Sunday at their house so I will try the cup with the drip there. Ha. His birthday was actually on March 10.

Hope to see you guys some day…… Hugs.
