Painting of the Week

Jesse said this picture was "nice" but not "exciting". That happens sometimes. I did another painting this week, but sometimes, things just don't turn out like you want them at all.

Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day my man's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Lyrics by Bob Dylan

Actually, Toby is coming home tonight! I pick him up at the airport in OKC this evening - yeha or as GBN1 says - Heehaw! Thirty years of marriage and he still makes me happy. This morning I was reminded how precious and fragile marriage can be when I read Sean’s recent posts at Docinthebox. My heart goes out to him, but I am not sure any words can be comforting.

Last night, Jesse and I grabbed a bite to eat with the Faughts (Lindsay’s family) and then went to see “Ratatouille” at the cheap show. It was very well done and lots of fun. If you have not seen this movie and you like animation, you will like this.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun!

At dinner, I got more of the scoop on Jesse’s latest adventure. The girls started off slow at dinner - probably because they had just had a long day at work. But before dinner was over, they were wound up and telling stories. Their trip to NY was not as exciting as they would have liked. They had lots of plans that fell through, and they did not get to do all that they wanted to do. Their host disappeared for most of Saturday without explanation after promising to take them to Canada for the day. So they sat around and waited on their host to come home only to be told that the Canada plan was not happening - no reason given. Later that evening they went to a drive-in movie. When you have high expectations, and those expectations get dashed, it can be hard. I was proud that they put on their big-girl panties and dealt with it well. These girls are just pretty good at making their own fun - no matter what. They made friends where ever they went. I am sure they made others happy with their mere presence.

This week's painting reminds me of the small house I rented in Westby, Montana...and that's a very good thing! And not every painting needs to be exciting, does it?

Wow... I hadn't been over to Sean's place in more than a week, and was quite surprised. His tale is SO poignant, and SO very familiar. All I can say is I'm glad I wasn't blogging when TSMP and I fell apart, because I was flippin' deranged with grief and sadness. I didn't handle it well, in other words. I'm still not handling it all that well, come to think on it...

Big day today! Homecomings are so very, very, very good. Your choice of songs is perfect to illustrate that point, too (I like Baez's version the best).

Have a GREAT weekend, Lou!

Buck, I thought of you when I read Sean's recent posts. You two have much in common.

I am so envious of people with talent, I loved the painting, is there a better way to search your site for others?

I love that painting. It may not be "exciting", but it has a nice homey feel to it. Very inviting.

I am sorry to hear Sean's story. I haven't read his blog before, but well do I recall the grief and dispair of a spouse calling it quits. I cried for a solid month.

I like the shadows and foreground in this "nice" painting. Happy that you are having a homecoming, too.

Shelly: I'm gonna be presumptuous and answer your question... since Lou is otherwise occupied ;-)

There's a search box at the very top of the blog, in the upper left hand corner. If you type in "Painting of the Week" (use the quotes) and hit enter you'll see all her posts with that title. And fortunately, Lou has titled most of her posts in this manner... I got 19 posts after running that query. LOTS of good paintings, in other words!

Ahhh, the license plate. Amazing what a difference when you view it full size!
