Procrastination

This morning I spent some time working on a letter to solicit donations for the upcoming art show put on by the Duncan Art Guild. How do you say, "Give Money" nicely? It is not one of my favorite things to do, but does seem necessary. I have been putting this letter writing off. In fact, I have several letters that I need to write and I just cannot seem to make myself do them. Procrastination is my middle name.

Back in my public school teaching days, I found out much about my personality when it came time to grade papers. You see, I hate cleaning house. I will put off cleaning house until absolutely the last minute or when company is coming. I don’t mind putting clothes in the washer and then the dryer, but I hate folding them and putting them away. There are usually little piles of clothes all over the couch or sometimes just one large unfolded pile. Same with dishes. Washing dishes is not nearly so bad as putting them away, so there is usually a stack of dishes in the drain-board. In fact, I have lots of little piles of papers and such that need to be put in a proper place – someday soon. Vacuuming is the pits mostly because I have to deal with the vacuum cleaner, which is similar to dragging a dead pig. But back in the PS days, when it came time to grade papers, I would rather clean house. Back then, my house was much cleaner than it is now. I guess the moral of this story is I need something in my life that I hate worse than housecleaning. Writing letters for the Art Guild just may be right up there with grading papers. Writing thank you notes may be second on that list of things I hate. Guess, I'll go mop the floor now.

I think the P.C. label is "organizationally challenged" - Don't worry, you're not alone. We should start a help group..

Isn't it funny...the things we hate to do...they vary from person to person...me...I hate to clean the frig and I hate to get gas (I really hate getting gas now that it cost a arm and a leg) One day durning the Christmas holidays I came home from work and the frig had been cleaned...Erin's boyfriend said he couldn't stand it anymore and had to clean it...Hummm interesting.

Dang, Lou... "brother and sister separated at birth" came to mind when I read this. I have ALL of your quirks, save for folding clothes... which I always do... but only because I do laundry at the frickin' laundromat these days. My dishes go from sink to drainer back to the sink again...the only time they see the interior of my cupboard is when company is coming. Ditto for all the other stuff.

Are ya sure we're not related? ;-)

Hey Lou... I tried to e-mail you this morning and got this:

Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: Gmail tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 5.7.1 Requested action not taken: Message was spam or contained virus. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error.

Which, of course, is BS... my note wasn't spam and didn't contain a virus. Do you have another address, other than your Hughes addy? Drop me a line, please.

Dang, Lou. You sound just like me!

I hate all those things you mentioned, even down to not minding washing and drying clothes but hating to fold them and put them away. The only thing I hate worse than house work is begging for money. Especially in these tough times when I know that all my friends are as broke as I am.

I can hear Shaun and the kids running the vac and slamming around dishes even as I type. heh heh :)
This is really working for me!!!!

It is of some comfort to know I'm not alone in the dishes and folding laundry. I'm good at DOING laundry, but suck at folding and putting away. I don't know what's going to happen when I go back to work one of these years.

I keep telling you we are related! We are having a BBQ in a couple of weeks and I will be cleaning the night before. Argh....

On the begging, just remember that the worst thing they can say is, "NO!" No torture to you personally. :) Right??

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who hates house work. I'd even rather mend fence than clean house.
