Wicked Wednesday

An aside:
The Piper sent me an email saying that I had misspelled Pomalift yesterday. He had googled it to find the correct spelling. While writing yesterday's post, I had puzzled over the spelling. " Palma, Pomma, Poma, Pamma, etc all went through my mind. Did it have an L or had Okies done their usual L deletion? I did Google it. I did find it spelled Palma, but I did not look any further. Piper did a deeper research of the word and came up with Poma as the correct spelling. I was just lazy.

Strange things happened to me yesterday while I was in town. I stopped by the post office to mail a package to my cousin for her upcoming 50th birthday. I had angle-parked my car across the street from the PO. It is usually much easier and less traffic than parking directly in front of the PO. Because there was a car on either side of me, I had to inch my way back looking over my right shoulder as I backed out into traffic. A truck came around the corner into my lane of traffic, so I waited on him to pass. As soon as I could see that my lane was clear, I gave it some gas to back on out. Who would expect a pedestrian to step behind me from my blind spot. Of course the lady had jaywalked. Of course, she had to see and know that I was backing. There was no way I could see her even if I looked back over my other shoulder. What would possess someone to step behind a backing car? I slammed on my breaks and missed her as she kept walking behind my car, but it really shook me.

I met Toby for a nice lunch and he let me rant about the pedestrian – told me I should have run her down – making me laugh and causing me to "get over it." Of course I would not "run her down" – it was his way of teasing me. Then I went to get my "hairs cut" as GBN1 says. I love going to the beauty shop and letting someone work their magic on me. Maybe growing up with a mother who was a beautician made the beauty shop a place of comfort.

Once I was all refreshed and beautiful, I went to Wal-Mart, parking in my usual parking space. Toby teases me about being like my dad – always parking in a specific place. But I park far out in the lot near a cart-return where I can put my groceries in the car, put up the cart easily, and pull out of Wal-Mart without any hassle. This time, as I was unloading the groceries into my trunk, the wind was blowing like a son-of-a-gun. A big gust of wind caught the trunk just as I turned to set a sack down. The trunk conked me on the head so hard that I saw stars. I stood there holding my head with tears welling up in my eyes wondering if I was bleeding, wondering if I was going to pass out, wondering (for just a second) who the heck hit me on the head. Then I realized that I must look ridiculous standing there and worried that someone might stop to see if I was okay. If anyone had showed any kindness or concern, I probably would have burst into tears. I guess I must be a brick-brain ‘cause I was just fine. I do have a bruise and it did bleed just a little, but the new hair-do covered it nicely. Next time I choose a parking space, I will factor in the direction of the wind.

At church last night, several people told me that the Hawaiian babes had sent pictures of their snorkeling adventure. Since I did not get any yet, it is difficult to pass them on.

Today is art. I am staying home all day.

you know...i have no comical little quips for this one...i'm just glad you came out of that with only a bump on the head and a few whirling stars. That wind was NASTY yesterday! I do however, agree with Toby, i think it would've taught her a valuable lesson since you, in your mercy, wouldn't have completely killed her. OK i guess that was kinda funny.

To everyone else: MamaLou did kindly omit the fact that i misspelled POMA when i Googled it also. I just looked at her post and thought, "wait...is that right? Isn't it POMMA?" Sometimes, losing a spelling bee in 5th grade, to Karen Barker, does have its disadvantages.

Given my recent run in with people of low IQ I know it is hard to realize but the lady that was walking behind you might not have thought a thing about it. I am amazed at how people think. (or don't think at all) And the sad part of life is that they (these type of people) don't even notice. How do they function? Toby's advice about running over her made me think about the time one of my neighbors that lives about a mile north of me flipped me off for stopping to turn into my drive (which made him have to slow down on the highway) Boy I turned my car around and chased him all the way to his house where he quickly opened his garage and closed the door before I could get to him....if I could have only gotten to him quicker....needless to say he hasn't done me that way since. PEOPLE!!!!

Anny, I distinctly remember you not letting me get into a fight in the parking lot when I was in the Dodge truck and the guy was in a little car - neither of us wanting to back up and I yelled, "I'm bigger!" You said, "Oh, but Lou, you are not!"

Jay, if her name was Barker, she was probably very smart, but maybe not that great of a speller - My maiden name is Barker.

Hmmm. I'm like you and your Dad, too. I always park in the same area at the places I frequent. Always.

The wind is really beginning to get to me, in the worst sort of way. I don't remember last year (or the year before) being this windy, this long. And today it's more of the same, except for the fact we're going into the low 90s. Ugh. Heat, dust, and wind.

Hawaii sounds pretty danged good about now...

I'm glad you're ok, and I probably would have run down the pedestrian. Yeah, I know they have the right of way, but they're supposed to have some common sense, too.

Hi Lou! I have been so busy getting ready for my move to NM that I have not been able to be here much. Just want to say hello and have to say, I would have considered running down the pedestrian too. Some people need a little shock now and then to make them realize they are being idiots.

Also, I am sorry about the whack you got on your head, but I was happy to know you had a beautiful new hair cut for the occasion. It is important to look good for every occasion!

Miss you girl, I'll be back after my move.

Towanda, Thanks for the laugh. You know, I did look good while cryin' in the parking lot.

Mezzo sf, When I got to church Wed. night there was a friend there with a huge wrap on his hand. He had had the end of his finger smashed off when pipe fell on his hand - made my little whack on the head seem insignificant and made me thankful that I was not seriously injured.

My comments on your blog aren't showing up. The last 3 have disappeared. Let's see if this one sticks. In case it does, I checked out your hair at church on Wed. It looks nice. We sat behind you. I noticed that either you or Toby was hoggin' elbow room from the other.
