Blast from the Past
This is a real blast from the past. These pictures came from an old friend, Lori, who was visiting RR the summer of 1977 (Lori found me on FaceBook recently). Toby and I had married that June. I was 19. Lori was actually a friend of a friend, but she hung out with all of us and was at my wedding. In fact, we had my bachelorette party at her house. We were all so young that we did not really know what to do at a bachelorette party - so we watched Audrey Hepburn in "Funny Face" for a while and rode around on Lori's motorcycle. These two photos were taken in front of our little duplex apartment. That is Jill, my neighbor whom I wrote about here. Lori is included in this second photo, and that is my cat, Lizzie. On the Fourth of July the town of RR had lots of old fashioned events including a tug-o-war across a small creek. This was our team. That is me in the silly socks. By the way, we were winning the tug-o-war and had one of the other team in the water, but the judges said that was not enough. Eventually, the other team, which was older and bigger than our team, pulled everyone of us into the creek. The Fourth of July parade in RR was (and still is) the biggest event - we were Texas Red's peanuts that year (that is me tipping my peanut hat). I designed the costumes. One of the other girls wrote a song about peanuts which was sung to "Yankee Doodle." What fun!
