Labor Day 2010

We made it through Labor Day without any accidents. The day was warm and windy, but not hot – thank goodness. I was a little worried the strong winds would be too much for us amateur sailors, but Jesse and Bo did great. They make a pretty good brother and sister team. They showed no fear and loved the fast sailing. As a mother it is my job to show a bit of caution now and then. Toby, Sara, and I played with the GGs in the shallows. It made for a very nice morning.

Later in the day, we all went to a friend’s house for a cookout and some volleyball and good fellowship. It has been an odd summer – I have not played much VB. The good news is that riding my bike and working out has kept me in better shape this summer – so the VB yesterday did not hurt at all. The game was not too exciting, but it was a good time. After supper, we sat around with the adults and visited. Several of the families have spent time in RR during the summers, and we shared mountain stories. One friend grew up in the Tucumcari area. He told his stories about that part of NM, and I shared stories from Questa – we made a good tag team. Toby put in a few stories about life in Hobbs, NM, and we covered the state pretty well. Life in NM is definitely different. Although one lady shared some stories about life in backwoods Kentucky, which might rival life in NM.

Years ago we met a man who had moved to Taos to retire. He had been a civil engineer and had been all over the world building things. In some awe, he told Toby, "You know, Taos is a third world country."

"You know, Taos is a third world country."

True, dat. The same could be said for the whole of NM, actually. There are times when I find myself thinkin' I'm in Old Mexico while wanderin' the aisles of Wally-World, e.g., nosotros sólo hablan español.

Looks like ya had a great good time on your Play Day!

Buck, I did enjoy my Play Day, thanks. In fact, I'm having a hard time making myself work today.

Sounds like a good weekend. We did nada yesterday and today I worked at the gallery. I always said that living in Lubbock was like living in a foreign country, so guess NM is, too. I just lived there longer. Ha.

BR, time spent with family and friends is good. I sure have been thinking about that horse named Mule...

Jo, Lubbock may be a foreign country too :)

Lou, she's been on my mind too. Unfortunately, the decision is quite as simple as I would like it to be. I'll post more on the subject in a few days.
