Spin City

Jesse asked me to go to a spin class with her at the local gym. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is an exercise class where a bunch of people ride stationary bikes. I agreed to go with her, but no one else showed up for the class - not even an instructor. Okay, let's go home. Nope, Jes put in a video and made me ride for 45 minutes to some cheesy instructor. I was hoping the video had some scenery that made you feel like you were riding outdoors. It was more like the handsome, athletic instructor and a group of fit actors on stationary bikes who were suppose to encourage you to ride hard. There is neve a fat older lady keeping up with all the youngsters. The cheesy instructor seemed a bit full of himself and his instruction and encouraging words were just silly. Na, I didn't make too much fun of him. He would tell us to increase the resistance on the wheel and then stand up and sit down - over and over through some "songs," which were more like odd instrumentals. Anyway, Jesse would say, "Come on, Mom; you can do it!" But am I willing is the big question. I haven't stood up on my bike since fifth grade - not easily, anyway. Sitting in the saddle is more my style for now. If it were my choice, I would have ridden about 30 minutes and then maybe headed to the track to walk. Instead, we did the whole video and sweat was dripping from my body. There is no breeze to cool you off in the gym like there is outdoors. Jesse said, "Don't you feel better?" Maybe. Nothing a slice of pizza won't cure.

Nyuk! That truly made me giggle out loud. I never understood the stationary bike deal...or a treadmill. I guess they work for some people, but just shy of 100% of those purchased end up as clothes racks, or Craig's List fodder.

Hey it could have been Richard Simmons! Pizza is a cure for a lot of things!

Andy, biking in the winter is not so fun either - hence the stationary bikes at the gym.

Dale, I kind of like sweating to the oldies.

You're a MUCH better person than I, Lou. I can only think of ONE valid reason to break a sweat.

Heh! Good one, Buck!

Sorry, but I really have to agree with Buck on that one!
