Small Christmas Rant

Yesterday was uneventful – meaning I have nothing today. I went to my usual body sculpt class, and yes I did sweat. It is difficult to maintain this physique. After exercise, I made a trip to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things. Toby wanted to try a new recipe, and I’m all for him cooking even if it means a special trip to Wal-Mart. In the afternoon my young art girls came to paint, and we had a good day. When Toby came home, we set to cookin’ and watched a bit of Emeril for inspiration. Toby cooked a gnocchi and chicken recipe – similar to a soup or dumpling recipe. It was pretty darn good. After dinner, I curled up to watch my favorite TV show, NCIS, only to find that it was put off for an hour while "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" was shown. That has to be the most obnoxious Christmas show ever – right up there with "Frosty the Snowman." Both shows were made in the late 60’s with the sorriest cartoons and animation. With all the beautiful stuff put out by Disney back then, you would think they could have done a better job with those two Christmas shows. They are just lousy. I hated them when I was a kid, and I hate them now. So why does Hollywood continue to run them year after year? Lack of creative minds? As a kid, I remember looking forward to shows such as "White Christmas" with Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby or "It’s a Wonderful Life, " and other Christmas classics - but never those stupid cartoons. Anyone else agree with me?

Lou, I have to agree with you, they're pretty lame. But then Christmas and I don't get along anyway.
Emeril? I don't get the food network anymore and I miss the 'Bam Man'. Love him!

I don't know why they don't do a remake with todays technology! They are pretty bad but unfortunately they are an American Christmas tradition. Therefore, I doubt they will ever be any better than they are right now.

Okay, it is a consensus. Someone let Hollywould know.

Not quite a consensus. I love both of those shows! I never miss them. I even have them on DVD. Classics, both. Neither one is Disney, by the way.

Hold the show! I'm with Becky on this one. I enjoy these shows. They bring back fond memories of Christmas from my childhood.

Ack! I'm too old, we didn't have cartoons on TV .. no TV. Sigh........

Becky, I knew they were not Disney, but my point was that there was better technology/cartoonists available. And they were so silly. At least Charlie Brown's Christmas incorporated the reason for Christmas and not just the Santa thang.

If memory serves, The Rankin/Bass production of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" includes reference to Christ.

BR, You are right. I heard that song just the other day and it was the first time I had ever heard the verse with the reference to Christ. I had only ever heard the verses where you better be good so you can get toys from Santa.

Lou, I LOVE those shows, but especially Rudolph. And remember, Rudolph was stop-action animation, a bit different from hand-drawn cartoons.
