Conversation with John

I tried to be nice. I had some great thoughts for a post a few weeks back, and then decided not to post them. But since John brought up the subject of his nephew in the comments, I just have to post it. John, just so you know, I'm gonna poke some fun at you here, and that is all that it is - just fun - because your, well, easy, and I've been giving you a hard time for years. Why stop now?

John called me a few weeks ago to discuss some things. During the conversation, he mentioned that he and his wife both thought that their nephew would be perfect for Jesse. My eyebrow went up. I'm always skeptical, but interested - Jesse too. John proceeded to tell me about his nephew. His nephew sounds like a good guy, but I had some silent thoughts as John spoke - some of which were pretty funny, but I kept a straight and silent face. Now I shall reveal:

John said his nephew graduated from University of Texas.

Strike one, but I will try not to hold that against him.

John said that his nephew had been working with his father, but the economy had hurt their business and now his nephew was traveling around. - and Jesse loves to travel.

Yeah, well, who will make the money for all this traveling?

John said that his nephew had dated lots of girls.

Really? Why is that impressive?

His nephew did have one girl friend for a long time, but she "dropped his butt and said that if he was'nt going to treat her any better, she would just find someone who would."

I'm not sure I have to say anything to this one.

He likes to run marathons.

Okay, maybe he has potential.

John sent a few pics of his nephew running in a marathon, and his nephew is pretty cute - even Jesse said so. Chances are that he and Jes would have lots in common, but John's description of him had me and Jes laughing. So John, when you saw Jesse in RR and mentioned your nephew, I'm sure these thoughts were running through her head as well. Is your nephew a smart A$$? 'Cause he would have to be to fit in around here. Send him on over and we will rake him over the coals.

But you never know...

Yeah, well, who will make the money for all this traveling? That was my first thought too Lou. Travel's a wonderful thing but let's see, there is always money involved.

Buck, are ya scared yet?

Buck,
I'm sure "dating lots of girls" makes him seem less of a wallflower sort, but still, it can also mean that he's a bit of a rounder - can't settle down. Depends on what you are looking for in a guy.

Deb,
Money is important.

Buck,
Google has your number.

Heh, heh. Maybe you will get some more offers, now. How about our Larry.....???

Buck, Blogger does have your number.

Jo,
Well, Larry is a photographer - they have that in common, and their moms are both artists, and their dad's ride bikes. Wait, I think you and I have more in common than they do.

More than ya know, Deb. I'm thinkin' about applyin' for the Witless Protection Program.

wv: hemalith, which is a world-class hematoma visited upon MCPs by outraged feminists.

Ah, you are right. Besides I don't think Moms can pick friends for their kids. Sigh....

I'd say Jes is wise to avoid this guy. The comment about the girl leaving him because he didn't treat her well was the deal breaker for me.

Becky,
Maybe, but we are open to possibilities. I know John, and his cousin is probably a great guy - it was just John and his description that needed to be poked.

Loved your post Lou...very funny and was taken with a grain of salt on this end, heh-heh. Now...let's get some thangs straight. Most of the girls he dated wanted to get married, but he knew he wasn't ready at that time, and has stayed friends after those relationships ended. As far as the last girl, his heart was broken, and sometimes it takes that to learn a lesson when you're young. His traveling has been accomplished by saving enough money to do that and also buy a home. When he isn't on a vacation, he still manages his Dad's construction firm in Dripping Springs. On UT Lou...can't say anything about that. You know we're UT people from Austin just like you guys are Tech fans from Wichita Falls. Side note: The thought of Lou and I being related would be like RR in '75...always fighting BUT having a good time anyway.

John,
I'm glad for the grain of salt. If I couldn't poke you now, and then what would life be?

Agree totally Lou. Have a great time in Red...everyone I talked with is looking forward to seeing you. By the way, Becky Brown said something to the effect of trying to organize and men/women reunion of the people who worked up here in RR in the '70's. I thought that was great and said to talk with you about that when you get up here. I'll do everything I can to help out if you guys think that would be a good idea. Take care.
