Mis-Words

For years Jesse has kept us entertained with her mis-words. In telling a story, she will use a word or phrase that is wrong, but it sounds right. Maybe it will be close, but not. Sometime the word will be a made-up word. Sometimes it is just the wrong word. Always, it is very funny. I've mentioned the "tragedy lights" for hazard lights and "macarena" for maraca as well as a few other mis-words. She means to do something fast when she says "quick as slick." And if she ever pins you down, she may make you say, "Bob's your uncle" rather than crying uncle. Well, she did it again this past weekend when I showed her a cut on my finger. She said, "That looks just like the Nipitor commercial."

"Nipitor??"

"Yeah! You know, the commercial!"

"Do you mean Lipitor?"

"No, the commercial where they show someone with a cut on their finger."

"Do you mean Neosporin?"

"Yeah! Your finger looks like the Neosporin commercial."

"Nipitor - snort!" And I went and put some on my cut finger.

Well, the apple does not fall far from the tree. Last week, Toby finished putting our gas fireplace in the bedroom. It is one of those vent-less fireplaces that looks like a real fireplace with fake logs and gas fire. It took a while to get all the right parts and get it all put together. He was quite pleased with himself when all was said and done. He then turned off the lights to see how the fireplace looked. So there we were in the dark watching the fire, and Toby, trying to be poetic, said something about watching the "fricklin firelight."

"Fricklin?? Did you mean the frickin' firelight?"

"No." Toby was laughing hard. He could not come up with what he really meant to say. Of course he meant to say "flickering."

This weekend we worked on hooking up the hot water heater in the new part of the house. We had the water heater set up, but had not put the vent through the ceiling and roof. Since we were poking holes in the roof, we also finished hooking up our wood stove in the living room. We had been delaying these two jobs, because cutting holes in the ceiling - especially my beautiful wood ceiling- had to be precise. Toby and I are not precise workers, but we managed to getter' done and did well.
Here is Toby building our first fire and then enjoying it. And yes, he did say that he was enjoying the "fricklin' fire."

We are laughing over here. Ha. Too funny. Your fireplace looks great. Gene doesn't want to mess with propane so we are getting an electric fricklin' fireplace in the bedroom and livingroom. Will put the TV on top in the living room. Hey and we are closing on the house today!!! Yay!

Fricklin' sound entirely reasonable to me. Nipitor is quite another story. ;-)

wv: culatent. If it would have been "L-O" instead of "L-A" that would be what the OWS crowd are livin' in.

Jo,
Yay on your house! Electric fricklin firelight will be nice too. I know you will be glad to gather your things and move into a real house - something to be thankful for.

Buck,
The Nipitor worked wonders on my cut finger.

Moogie,
The last several winters have each had several days of no electricity - that is Toby's justification for a wood burning stove. And he is a fire bug.

My dad had an electric fricklin firelight fireplace. I bought it for him when I was in the Navy. I imagine it got ruined when hurricane Ike rolled into town. I need to remember to ask my brother about it.
