Ten Years Old

Today is GBN1's birthday. It is difficult to believe that she is now ten years old. She loves to point out that she is almost as tall as me, which I tell her not saying much.  But the truth is that she is growing - growing into a beautiful young lady.  I love all my grand-babies, but GBN1 has a special place in my heart. This a painting I did of her several years ago. I call it Lady Bug.

Hmm... I can't remember much when I was that age. Must have been the fourth grade. That was the age you could pick berries solo, so my dad sent me to the Yamamoto strawberry farm all summer. He let me spend $1 a week, but the rest went to school clothes. Every week he wanted more crates out of me, and said a 5 year old could pick berries faster! I seem to recall something like 65 cents a crate, but maybe that was when I was 12 :-) My problem was I loved strawberries and ate a crate by myself...

The only strawberries I ever picked were the wild, mountain strawberries in NM. They were very tiny, but delicious.

Thanks, Moogie. That painting actually won a prize at an art show.

I forgot to say, that with all your recent paintings, I'm surprised your roof is not red! It looks like your stucco is done though. Just need a NM adobe color on it now :-)

I only wish my stucco was done. We still have a couple of sides to do and then the color coat.

I love the picture, with the little girl in the wagon, and the great smiles - I'm jealous, as my daughters are in their late 20's, and still not ready to settle down - Papa says he wants grand kids before he's 60, or he's selling his fishing pole - No pressure, ha.

Grandbabies are great. I could use a few more.
