A Little More Good News

We have more exciting news. Last week when Jesse was interviewing for a teaching position, our son was interviewing for a new job also. Right now he is a CPA and works for a private accounting firm. He has enjoyed working for his buddy, Bodie.  It has been a wonderful job for his little family, but now his little family is growing.  You heard me right! His little family will be growing some more. I will have a new grand-baby come May. The new job will have lots of benefits and pay more with lots of room to move up the corporate ladder. I know Bo hates to leave Bodie, but it will be a good career move for him. I'm pretty excited about the whole thang - especially the grand-baby part!

Last week when we were in WF, we were there to take my mom-in-law to the doctor. The appointment card was written poorly and the date was confused. So, yesterday I went back to WF to take her back to the doctor. Her appointment was at 2 PM. We did not see the doc until 3:30 due to some sort of emergency at the hospital. Now, I understand emergencies and fully expect the doc to have to take care of his patients. But we had waited for an hour when finally I went and asked the young girls in the office what was going on. Geeze, couldn't you just tell us upfront that it was going to be a wait? Why wait to tell us until we are all pissed. Actually, we did fine. Got 'er done. It made for a long day.

The good news is that I was able to meet up with Jesse after her first day with her new students. Jesse and I had a bite to eat. She drank a beer to relax. I had to drive home before I got to relax.  She said her first day went well, but the kids, who have had a sub all year and little to no discipline or art) were very loud. Jesse is pretty quiet. In the past, she has often made fun of me for using my "teacher voice." Now she needs to develop a teacher voice.  She will do great.

I seem to be replying a lot?? But I took an art class in my senior year, and we got a brand new teacher. She was probably 5 years older than all of us. This was in 70, so she is dressed in a really cute business suit and skirt all the time. Teachers had to wear ties and dress-up back then. I thought - how is she going to do art with such nice clothes. Aha! Off came her business coat and on went a big smock and she could sling paint, clay, erasers, with the best of us, ha. Oh, one thing - she always wore hippie beads (colorful) with her business suits, so you knew she was only grudgingly submitting to the dress code.

It is nice that someone replies - thanks.

Jesse and I have discussed buying her new clothes to teach in, but she says she has to be able to demonstrate at the pottery wheel, etc. A smock or apron would be good - I may look into that. And she will need some hippie beads just to remind herself where she comes from.

I was thinking about the temperature difference. Washington state was never as hot as Texas! So you don't want to be overheated, but then you don't want to go native either. An old Army joke, was sergeants always had to inspect their uniforms twelve times a day, lest they be accused of going native (like the conscripts) by the officers...

Congrats to both of your children. And you will be a grandmother again. So sweet. We were in NM at a funeral. Gene's best friend from high school passed away from cancer. How different his family was. He was married twice so there were 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. We have two grandchildren and that is probably all. We may get a couple of great grandchildren, but not very soon. He was a year older than Gene, but....... Ha! It was a good fast trip. 3 nights only. Now a day to get ready to go to Kentucky for Thanksgiving.

I have 14 second cousins from my mothers side (seven girls and seven boys! lucky 7), and I lost track of how many kids they've had. Can you imagine having 14 kids! Their mother can still walk around at 92! When I asked her in a letter why she had so many kids, she credited the long winters, the failure of the rhythm system, and her husband, in that order. He died the same year as my dad (1980's). Oh yea, they are all devout Catholic. Me? Not as devout as that...

Jo, Sorry about your friend. It was good that you got to go to the funeral.

Maybe one of these days Jesse will give me some more grandbabies. I could live with that.

Okie, we have good friends who have 14 kids. It is always a party at their house.

Yes, we got a Christmas picture when the kids were small, and it had wings that folded out so they all fit! All the kids were very close in birthdays too, so party party from September on through Christmas.

Well, I think there are probably some good son-in-laws to catch in North Texas, but I wouldn't settle for anything less than an ambitious man, and you might get luckier panning for gold, waiting for that to happen. Trust me, I'm a slacker from way back, and all my friends are slackers too, ha.
