Demanding Dogs

With the cold weather, we have been letting the dogs come in the house at night. Okay, the truth is that my dogs can come in the house any time they want, but normally the big dogs sleep in their very large dog house with a heat lamp outside. I am a softie and I hate to think of them outside when the temps drop below freezing. I bought a dog bed for them and put it near the wood stove. They use the dog bed to laze around in front of the fire until I go to bed. Then they follow me into the bedroom and sleep beside my bed. I have to be careful not to step on or trip over them if I get up in the night. We have to put things on the couch and in our recliners to keep the dogs off of the furniture at night. During the day, I forget about the furniture and often find Max (the Dane) curled up in my recliner. He keeps it warm for me:) With four dogs, I spend a large amount of the morning letting dogs in and out of the house. The day starts by putting them all out to potty and then letting them all in for their treat. Then one by one throughout the morning, they scratch on the door to be let out or in. Ranger, the spoiled Rat Terrier, will scratch on his food bowl for more food and knock his water bowl over to let me know it is time to fill the bowl. Demanding dogs! It never fails that they get demanding about the time I get comfy in my chair with my book. I get lots of exercise getting up and down all morning.

Yesterday, was my mom's 84th birthday. I drove over to WF to take her to get new hearing aids (her dog ate her expensive hearing aids) and then out for a birthday lunch with Jesse and my SIL. It was a good day with Mom. We did some shopping and I ran some errands.

Today I wanted to stay home and finish a painting that I had started on Monday, but I have errands to run in Duncan. I think I can get in some art time, but it will be another busy day. I don't really mind the busy days, but I want to savor my time over the school break. When Toby called me from work and gave me a list of things he needed done today, I was resentful, but I squashed that feeling. If I would make better use of my time, I wouldn't need to be so possessive with about it. Funny how that works - when I think I have lots of free time, I laze around and don't do much. Then when someone gives me stuff to do, I suddenly get all crazed thinking of all I should have done and how now I won't have time for this or that. It's all good. I might as well go to town and run errands. It is more productive than I would be on my own.

Here is a photo I took yesterday morning. First we had hellacious winds that blew the patio furniture out into the pasture. Then we had rain that caused a pond in the yard. Then the pond froze. Finally the sun came up and it was all very beautiful.

Can’t believe the dogs. Gene had been wanting a dog, but after Jennie’s three were here for Christmas and threw up a couple of times he is a changed man. Especially because I told him that I would not be cleaning up after a puppy!

Your photo is gorgeous. The chair looks like it is calling for someone to sit on it like at the beach. Ha.

Hope you get to paint.

Hugs, and Happy New Year.

Thanks Jo. Hope your New Year is happy, too.

Puppies are cute, but they are messy.

When my cat conked out I thought about getting another pet. I usually like cats over dogs. I don't know why, I've only had one dog before, and it was a pain in the ass, but I guess I shouldn't blame all dogs for one idiot. But my last cat had a lot of health problems, and I've decided that Vet's are out of my price range now (retired and all).

Since my wife conked out, it's been pretty quiet around here. When my daughter visits, she is used to a lot of noise at her place, with family and pets, and always says I am going to go crazy because it is so quiet. She wants to bring me a dog, but I say No!

Last week I caught a mouse. Normally I would put the traps out, but I wanted to see how he got in. Funny, the gas pipe in the fireplace has an opening around it (too big a hole). The mouse was squeezing in through that. Anyway, I had a pet mouse for a day, but I fed him mouse poison and he conked out. I figured conking out in a box was better than behind the fridge and smelling up the house...

Pets... Pests... Hmmm...

Quiet City, I like cats. We have three. They live outside. When my hubby conks out, I will probably let one in.
