Painting of the Week

Ahh, pastels! This is my favorite medium. It is fast, colorful, and messy. While in Kerrville, I visited The Museum of Western Art. One of my favorite artists on display was a lady named Karen Cooper. She did pastels on black paper. Her paintings were really cool, so I thought I would try the technique also. I have plenty of western photos that would work well with the lighting needed. Here is my first attempt.

I have GBN1 today. She spent the night last night. After playing in the park, eating dinner and watching a movie, we were hoping she would be worn out and ready for bed. No, she was wound up. She chatted for a while before finally falling asleep. This morning we hitched up the horse trailer and helped a neighbor take her horse to the vet. It has been quite a morning. Later we will meet Toby and Jesse in the park for lunch. And then...a nap!

Wow...pretty danged good for a freshman effort! The black paper effect is very cool and VERY dramatic. I like this a lot, Lou.

Is that Sam Elliot? You people amaze me..it would take me weeks to do something like that. I really like the contrast, i wonder...could you paint a picture like that and make it look like a dark night, stars and everything? I think that would look cool on the black paper.

oh yeah, and with saying that i could do something like that, it would be a "paint by the numbers" type thing.

Well, Lou in the "for what it's worth" department, I took a look at Karen Cooper's site and I think you've done a GREAT JOB with your pastel here. I don't know much about art but I know what I like to look at WTG girl!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. As I said, I love pastel. The black paper is always dramatic and fun.

Lou,

When I first saw the picture I thought it was a picture you had taken from your visit to the art museum in Kerrville! So there you have it...your work is definitely museum-worthy and might nice! You are one talented lady, on so many levels!

Catherine, what a lovey surprise that you commented! Thanks for the kind words. Now that you are commenting, do you mind telling me where you were stationed in Turkey again?
