While doing some blog surfing yesterday, I came across a milblog by a young Marine called Jake's Life. He had some great pictures and stories - seemed to be a well educated young man and rather good-looking too. As I looked through his photos, I noticed something familiar about his smile. I looked back through my old emails for photos from a friend who had sent pics of her son, John Gill, as he was deploying earlier this year. John went to elementary school in Red River with Jesse, and I have known his parents and grand-parents forever. I have been sending him letters and packages this deployment. Sure enough, there is John with Jake Woods. The really ironic part of this story is that John had been on my mind yesterday morning before I found Jake's blog - so I had just written a letter and dropped it in the mail to John. What a small world! Here is one of the photos that John's mother sent me. That is John on the left and Jake on the right at the airport as they were deploying. Handsome Marines!
Jesse went water skiing yesterday afternoon while I mowed the yard. Does that seem right?

Lou, I'd love to send letters to the guys and gals who are serving our country...what a wonderful thing you do. Can you lead me to where I might go to get address/persons...what a gift you are...yes, an angel!
And you're right...something's wrong with that picture -- you mowing and Jesse skiing. Hmmmm. How 'bout today you go sky diving and Jesse cleans out the barn! :)
Catherine, you can go soldiersangels.org and read about the Soldiers' Angels and what they do and expect from their angels. It is a great organization. They will give you a soldier to write to and send packages.

Nope. Not at ALL. And water skiing on a Monday? No wonder people have it in for Halliburton...
;-)
Monday...Tuesday...whatever. A work day, anyway!
I have also encountered Jake's site - excellent reading. And, ahem, a "little good looking". That's an understatement! :-)
We live pretty close to several small lakes - makes afternoon water-skiing or kayaking easy. Come to think of it, they were all Halliburton employees that went water-skiing...
Kris, now you know why it was easy for me to recognize Jake - there just could not be two like him.
Those are some good looking marines!
I've often thought about writing to military members, but I've gotten to be such a terrible letter writer. I have a hard time even keeping up with e-mail. Sad...
Wow! Jake is as handsome a man as I have ever seen! Brains, looks, strong Christian values and he played Big 10 football. I just spent 3 hours reading his whole blog. This young man is going to make some woman very happy and proud.
You found ol Jake's blog, I am a buddy of his and use to be in the platoon. Now I go to Texas Tech and I see that your here in Lubbock at the moment, that is odd. I hope you enjoy his blog cuz he explains it pretty well. Adios, BW
