Storms

Just to let you know, we did have some thunderstorms last night, but nothing serious here on the Lazy B. Duncan got pea sized hail that covered the ground like snow. The clouds were ominous. Lone Grove, which is about 45 minutes south east of here, was hit by a tornado that killed more than a dozen people. That is some serious stuff. We had watched Chicken Little on KSWO who was very excited by the area’s storms, and saw the storm cell and tornado warning for that area. I would have thought that the Lone Grove folks would have had plenty of warning, but then again, most of them watch a different weatherman. Chicken Little is obnoxious, but detailed. Tornadoes also hit Edmond and other parts of OK City area, but no fatalities. Once again, the Lazy B got some rain. We left the house in the middle of all of this to go to a neighbor’s house for dinner and all was fine.

Lou, I'm glad to see that all things were safe with you and your family. Growing up in Tornado Alley I know exactly what happened in Lone Grove. People heard the sirens go off and the first thing they did was go outside and look for the funnel cloud. Am I right? When you grow up in an area where nearly everyday in the spring you are either under a watch or warning you become complacent and you don't heed the warnings. When the horns go off in Jacksonville, even today, I have to make myself react to what's going on. The difference between TX tornados and AR tornados is in AR they normally come in the middle of the night, which makes it even harder for me to get motivated because I can't see the funnel cloud.

Dale, I would bet that is what happened in LG. It was probably just after the sun went down that the tornado hit - too dark to see it coming.

Living here in The Alley most all of my days i've learned one thing in the case of those devils...watch the Chicken Little's as long as you can stand...if the track is toward you...move you and yours at right angles out of harms way. The stuff can be replaced.

Yup... what Jay said. My two-plus years in OKC taught me the same thing. We get a lil bit of severe WX here in P-Ville and if we're under a warning I get the Hades out of Dodge MOST rickey-tick and head for the hospital, which has a large "safe room." But I'm seemingly the ONLY guy who heads out of Beautiful La Hacienda Trailer park... go figure.

Good to hear all y'all are safe, Lou. I saw a lot of footage on Edmond's aftermath last night and thought of y'all.
