Summer's Almost Here

The Painted Ladies came to my house yesterday, which meant lots of cleaning and cooking beforehand. I made a chocolate sheet cake (more for Toby than the Ladies, but the ladies enjoyed it too), and I made a mushroom, spinach, bacon quiche. Both the cake and the quiche turned out well. Even Barb, who is always on a diet, ate some of the cake. We started off with a painting lesson out of an art book on layering or what is sometimes known as finding the lost line. Here is my attempt.
Then we moved on to painting WTH we wanted to paint. This is what I wanted to paint. I started a third little painting and will try to finish it today.

Yesterday was Cinco de Mayo. I knew that, because blog buddy Jo, mentioned it as well as showing her wonderful new painting that went well with the May celebration. But then I promptly forgot about it. Later, Jesse reminded me. When she came home from work, she drank a margarita wine cooler "in celebration of Cinco de Mayo" - her words. I like the way she thinks.

Today is suppose to be in the 90's. Hmm, am I ready for the heat? I think I am, but when it gets really hot and stays that way, I get tired of it really fast. My mom called from Wrigley Field the other day (she is on a AARP trip). I was so jealous! Summer does have its good points - baseball. We took the GGs to a little league game last Saturday - what fun!

I'm with you on this one, Girl...baseball is THE best part about summer. I could do without the heat and humidity. Oh how I miss the days of my kid's baseball games, those were the best of days! I even coached 1st graders Tee-Ball...awesome experience!
Stay cool!

Blossoms... my favorite.

We shall be miserable here in P-Ville today. Our forecast: "Mostly sunny. Windy. Highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph increasing to west 25 to 35 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 45 mph." It will be a full-tilt boogie AC kinda day. Meh.

Just about the time I think I'm fed up with winter in the NW, you and Buck start writing about the oppressive heat in your neck of the woods. Well, the grass is always greener, right?

BR, actually the temps are not so bad, yet. Temps in the 90's are still moderate around here. Later they will be in the three digits most every day.

I came across your site quite by accident. I’m happy I did; I was looking for art ideas online. I’m an artist too, and I know a decent fellow artist when I see one. I have to tell you that your site’s art really impressed me. You’re a really good writer and artist. Your flowers are wonderfully painted and I enjoyed your watercolor beach scenes. Let me tell you that the orange, pinks and pale yellows of your iris watercolor are beautifully blended you have mastered painting flowers like few watercolorists . I have a son who served in Iraq so I was most touched by Sergeant Bull Dog the Soldier’s Angel. You do some fine art work. My media is acrylic. I tried water color and always muddied the wet paper. I just don’t seem to have the ability to keep my lines clean and sharp. That’s what I admire most you have extraordinary talent and you are so humble. .

Anonymous,
Thanks for your encouraging words and for dropping by my blog. You are welcome here anytime. I sometimes work in acrylics or oils. I love my pastels, but the watercolor are fast and that seems to suit my lifestyle right now.

Ain't it cool when people stop by and sing your praises? You deserve a LOT of this, Lou.

Hi there, thanks for the link! The heat was not good today. Made me think of packing for NM in July. Ha. I like the margarita idea. I forgot to have one. And baseball, the Horns lost to Kansas State 2-1 there. Guess it is better to loose now instead of in Oklahoma City. We got out tickets yesterday! Hope we see you again. I would like to come by and get a watercolor lesson! I love your blooms. Excellent.
