It's All Relative

Last Saturday when I finished the Dehydrator, I got my lawn chair and sat down in the shade near the last pit-stop/refreshment area, which was being manned by some Bikers for Christ group – very nice people. As the bicycles came in, I cheered the riders on – hooting and hollering. At first the Bikers for Christ thought I was crazy, but I explained that it was really great to have someone acknowledge you when you finished the race. So, they started cheering too. This brought more bicyclists to their refreshment tent and was much more fun. At one point there was a young, handsome Airman from Sheppard Air Force Base sitting with me under the tree drinking his lemonade and eating a Popsicle (Of course, I checked him out, but it seems that he has a girl friend coming to see him next month). In our conversation (my checking him out) I asked if he was going to ride in the Hottern’ Hell Hundred later in August. He said that he was not sure – that he had heard that it was really hot and tough. I didn’t mention that 113 heat index (which is what it was last Saturday) was about as bad as it gets around here and that once you are over 100, it is just hot no matter what. But I did encourage him to participate in the HHH and said, "Last year a cold spell hit during the HHH and the temps were in the low 90’s, and it was a very nice day." The Bikers for Christ agreed that that sounded much better. The Airman just looked incredulous at us and said, "You people!" We Okies all said, "What?" The Airman said, "Lower 90’s and you think it is a beautiful day!?" Then someone said, "Well where are you from?" He answered, "Maryland." And we all laughed.
I got this from the KSWO weather site in Lawton today. It is just hot here - typically hot.

Like Buck keeps telling me, it's a dry heat, right?

Blech. I lived in Maryland, and the summers there are AWFUL. Way too humid and buggy for me.

Diva, I kind of feel sorry for you, but not.

BR, unfortunately, it is not a dry heat.

Christina, "Buggy" I hate worse than heat.

I'm with Christina... it's the humidity. Maryland is a big place and summers are prolly quite nice along the Chesapeake Bay... but suburban DeeSee/Maryland is Gawd-Awful.

You guys are a LOT hotter than us! Well, five to seven degrees, anyhoo.

Buck, I lived in D.C for a year and then moved to Ft. Meade. Ugh. Hot, humid summers filled with gnats, mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. COLD, damp winters with chilling winds. Lots of snow and scraping ice. No, thank you!
