Upcoming 45th Anniversary

Most of my readers know that my Uncle Bob was at Landing Zone Falcon in the Ia Drang battle in Vietnam in 1965. He sent me an email this morning reminding us that the 45th anniversary of that battle is approaching. He also sent me this link/article about the battle. Many of you have read the book We Were Soldiers or have seen the movie and know basically the story of the battle. This article does not go into details of the battles, but gives insight into how the Ia Drang affected the decisions made by Washington concerning the Vietnam War. It is very interesting, and I suggest reading it entirely. Once again I am reminded of the great sacrifice made by young men of our country. Never forget!
I am tempted to repeat how much attending the Ia Drang Veteran’s reunions in DC meant to me. Meeting the veterans, meeting Jo Galloway and Hal Moore, standing at the Memorial Wall as roll call was read at dawn with bagpipes playing, seeing grown men cry and hug each other - rubbing their hands over names of the fallen, meeting the wives and family members of the vets – some who lost their husbands and fathers in the battle – all of this was a life changing experience for me. It made me realize and understand the sacrifice. And yet, I feel like an outsider, because they are truly a band of brothers, and I can only imagine.
You can do a search of my blog to see photos and stories from my trips to DC for the Ia Drang Veteran's Reunions and other photos.

I've bookmarked the link for future reading. As of right now I've only read pages 1, 6, and 7. I respect Joe Galloway but I do not agree with his points of view on the Vietnam OR the Afghan wars.

I like the new colors of your layout, Lou. But I DON'T like the pale gray font... it's very hard for these tired old eyes to read.

Buck,
I was just messing around with the look of my blog. For some reason when Toby accesses my blog at Halliburton, he has to read it through the picture and it is difficult for him. I will try again.

I agree about Joe Galloway's politics. Reading the article was interesting - kind of a new and different for me. I wondered what others would think of the article and would be interested in hearing/reading different opinions.

I'll look later. Thank your Uncle Bob for me again.

I just watched the movie (again) on Thursday night. It was on HBO. Like Band of Brothers, if it is on, I will watch it.

I did not know that your Uncle Bob was there. Please send him my thanks for his service when you have the opportunity.

I will read the article later, when I have the time to properly digest it.

BR, I will let Uncle Bob know of your thanks. Because he was heavy artillery, he was not in the movie. I think they may have done a part about Landing Zone Falcon (where he was) but it got cut. He is mentioned in the book a couple of times. He is a good friend of Hal M. and Joe G.

Lou, there is a brief scene showing the artillery. Not certain if it is LZ Falcon, though.
