Old Navy Photos

These photos/postcards belonged to my father-in-law from his time in the Navy during WWII.  He caught the tail-end of the Pacific War after entering the Navy at the age of 17. He talked about seeing China in 1945.  Although, he didn't really talk much about his time at sea or in the Navy.  We know very little other than he was on the USS Estes. There are other postcards showing scenes from China, but these were the only two of the ships.  Pretty cool.  At the bottom of the Estes photo: USS Estes (GC-12) 6 Nov. 1945 at Whang-Poo River Shanghai, China   Good Friend Photo Co. Shanghai, China.  At the bottom of the photo of the Anzio: USS Anzio 57 at Mill Wharf Shanghai, China   Dec 1945 Photo by Silver Flower Co.

My MIL has a photo of Toby's dad in his blue Navy uniform - he was very handsome and cocky.  I'll see if I can get a copy of that pic sometime.  Now that my copy/scanner is working again, I'll try to scan in the other postcards - they are pretty cool, too.

Love the photos! My dad was stationed in Japan in WWII, and my uncle was in the Philippines. Dad was army and uncle was Navy.

The first photo was produced by my grandpa’s photo studio. It amazing that after 80 years, they are still in good shape.
