More Storms and Chasers

Last night the Duncan area was being hit by thunderstorms, but once again, they went around the Lazy B. In the meantime, major storms were hitting OKC.  I texted Jesse to check on things. She texted back that there "lots of rain". I assumed all was well. This morning I see this photo on FB with the words "We had to bail out".
I managed to wait a little while before calling her - after all it was Saturday morning. When I got her, I told her she could not post something like that without explanation. She said she was adding more info. Then I got the full (maybe) story. Jesse and her roomie were sitting safe and well in their apartment along with a few others including a couple from West Virginia, who had never been through such storms. Jes and her roomie were content to stay put, but other well meaning folk starting texting and telling them to seek shelter. So they jumped in the roomie's car and drove to the Devon building and the underground parking. When the storm passed - most of which was rain, they tried to drive home, but got caught in a flash flood. They had to crawl out the windows of the car. They tried to push the car upon the sidewalk, but eventually had to abandon ship.  She said they waded home with water up to their crotch, and it was cold. It was a bit treacherous walking in the deep water. Apparently a manhole cover  had floated away, and the roomie stepped in the hole. She fell and soaked herself as well as her purse, but she was okay. Jesse also fell. But you know Jesse, she looks at the bright side of things. She said it was cool to see dumpsters and port-a-potties floating by. People from her apartment were standing out on their balconies after the storm as the girls arrived at home. They teased the girls saying if they needed a potty, one just floated by. Jesse thought that was funny.  Jes was hoping to do some volunteer work in the Moore area today, but it seems the volunteers are having to do their own clean up due to the latest floods and winds. This OK weather is not okay. The good news is that we are suppose to have a better day tomorrow. If you have not seen this video of storm chasers being hit by debris from a tornado, watch it. It is wild.

Wow. I'm glad Jesse is OK. I remember flash floods in OKC; they NEVER failed to make the evening news after a bad storm. After a while you learn which areas to avoid if you're out and about when a storm rolls through.

I don't think they were thinking about such flooding in Downtown OKC. I saw on FB where Team Rubicon had to shut down their work in Moore today, so that they could clean up flood waters at their FOB.

Might be time for a tetnus shot and maybe some others.
Best to get a Dr.'s opinion.
Lots of bad bugs in that kind of storm run-off.

OMG! Pretty scary. In TX they say, Turn around, Don't drown! Wow, I'm still shaking. I'm very leery of floods. You guys stay safe. Hugs!

I'm so glad everyone there is OK. Those have been some pretty rough storms.

Maybe so, Jon, but have you ever seen the lakes and ponds Okies swim in here?

It has been some crazy weather this spring.

All is well. Hopefully, the storms are about over, but we could still use more rain around the Duncan.

When we lived in Fort Worth the dachsunds used to tease the cats next door. As soon as one would jump the fence, the male would crush it. I used to have to get the cat before the dogs ate it or the kids got home from school. Could never be a farm girl. Ewwwww!

No, you are gonna be a mountain mama, which can be similar to a farm girl.
