Uncles and Cousins

My cousin, Sheri, posted several old photos from her family's archive. She said they were mostly slides and she took pics of the slides. The quality is probably not so great, but the photos have great stories. This one was taken about 1968 on the steps of the Green Mountain Lodge that my parents owned in Red River.  That is me - the second from the left on the bottom. From the top left: Dad, Nanny, Mom, Aunt Carolyn. Bottom left: Cousin Pam, Me, Craig, Pete, Cousin Sheri, Cousin Cindy.  I don't remember this being taken, but the memories of that porch, of Dad working around the lodge, Mom cutting hair in the beauty shop inside the lodge, Nanny taking care of us all, etc. Those things I remember well.  Uncle Bobby probably took the photo above since all his family is in the pic and he is not.
This photo was one of Uncle Bobby and his girls at their home - wherever they were stationed at the time.  I love this photo for several reasons. First, it shows my uncle at his most handsomeness. Second, it shows my cousins at their cutest even if those hats were way-funny. Aunt Carolyn always dressed the girls in such cute, girly ways. She tried on me, but failed. Take a look at this fashion statement. That was me in the striped shirt and plaid skirt, and that was the greatest dog ever, Pumpkin. I had to include this photo taken in front of our Nanny's house. Look at those bikes. Are they cool or what. I used to ride my bike up and down that street, too. My cousins came to live in WF when Uncle Bobby did a tour (probably his third) in Vietnam. I loved having the cousins around. They were always fun, even if they did get me in trouble from time to time.

Today, I am headed to WF, because Uncle Bobby is there for the day. I can't wait to see him, although it makes me miss my dad so much.

Old photos are great; I love them so. You were a cute kid, Lou. (You still are.)

While visiting with my uncle, he had even more old photos. Some of them were from his 1965 Vietnam tour, but most were family photos from the that same era.

My dad used to say that puppies are cute when they are little, but then they just grow into big dogs. Then he would apply that saying to people.

I'm from a family of all boys. My mom said maybe the next one will be a girl, and then I'll have your dad neutered. After five boys she gave up!

But oh my, little girls in the neighborhood were all spoiled by her. She would teach them french children songs, but when we wanted to learn too, she chased us boys away, ha.

I teach all girls in my art classes. Although I tried having boys in the class too, it changed the dynamics of the class. Girls got silly; boys got crazy.

I had five girls before they got a boy. Your parents should have had one more.
