Penance

So, it has finally turned a bit cooler. Now we are having mid-eighties instead of nineties. I wore jeans for the first time in a long time yesterday. Woohoo! It was still a bit warm for jeans.

We are having a guest preacher at our church this week. He is preaching every night. Last night we got ready to go to church, and I put on a fancy scarf that I had bought in RR - thinking it was finally cool enough to wear it.  It was colorful and light-weight for a scarf. When I asked Toby what he thought, he said, "It looked silly." At my crestfallen look, he added, "Well, it is too hot to wear a scarf."  Too late. Damage done. I took the scarf off, but I was thinking, "Why the hail I had asked him in the first place." Keep in mind that I only say hail when I am angry or hurt or joking around.

Later as we drove to church, Toby turned left off the highway in front of an oncoming car. The car honked. Toby said, "Did that guy just honk at me?"

Me: "Well yeah, you just turned in front of him."

Toby: "It wasn't that close."

Me: "Well, he was coming fast and you were turning slow. And the sun was in his eyes. He probably got a little freaked."

Toby: "Are you taking his side? I see how it is!"

Me: "Well, I'm still a little sore over the scarf thang."

A woman holds on to such things for a long time.

That might could be the understatement of the year. I'm STILL being reminded of my failings by a certain someone... 15 years after she walked.

I'll probably let go of the scarf thang soon - depending on if I can get dinner at the Chuck Wagon in Velma.

I went to the dentist a couple weeks ago, and the receptionist is always nice to me, and she had on this nice looking shirt with sewn-in rings of silver around the neck. I said "You look like an Egyptian Princess!" She didn't much like that description, and I immediately told myself that was a little over the top.

Some men just don't know how to complement. I could have just said it was pretty, and left out all that other jazz...

Maybe she just did not know how to take a compliment.
