The Plans of Mice and Men

We now have less furniture and children in the house. We worked hard on getting Jesse into her new house this past weekend, but best laid plans of mice and men...

Friday morning I started off in WF early to do some leg work for Jesse since she is now a teacher and cannot run around town all day turning on her utilities. The folks at the City of WF were friendly and easy -  having her water turned on quickly and efficiently. Electricity and gas were not so bad, but required lots of time on the phone on hold. At 4:00 Jesse and I met at the title company to sign the papers. There were lots of papers and a long wait while the bank gave their okay on the signatures. We didn't get out of there until after 6. By then we were starving and needed a beer. We had hoped to do some cleaning and possibly buy paint before we tried to move in on Saturday. But our brains were fried, and we were too tired to make decisions on paint. Our thoughts now were to head home and get a good nights rest and start again in the morning. We headed to OK arriving home about 9:00 PM.

Of course, since our plan was to move furniture in the horse trailer, it rained all day Saturday. We didn't complain, because any rain here is good. Saturday's rain was steady and constant all day. We ditched the horse trailer idea and opted to take as much as we could in our cars. Once in WF, we bought paint and went to work on the house. While the girls painted, the guys were going to work on the bathroom which needed some tile grout. Oops, it needed more than just grout, the board behind the tile was mush. It needed to all come down and be re-tiled. Of course it did!

Although we worked hard all day Saturday, we did not get it all done. Of course we didn't. My job was deep cleaning on the kitchen. The girls painted and the guys tore up the bathroom. And there were some trips to the dump and some to Home Depot. Friends and family stopped by to see the new place. We got back to OK after 9:00 PM tired and worn.

Sunday Toby had to work his real job while the rest of us went back to WF to work on the house. We also loaded up the horse trailer and moved the big stuff. Shay and I worked in the bathroom re-doing the plumbing - making it a one knob shower rather the old-fashioned two knobs. The girls worked on unloading furniture and moving it around. My brother came by with my Mom's old couches which have been in storage for a while. He was kind enough to fix Jesse's front storm-door which kept slamming and needed a new hydraulic thangie.
The couch with matching pillows.

All went fairly well including the three trips to Home Depot for various fixer thangies. When the plumbing was done, we turned the water back on. Of course the new plumbing worked great. It was the old plumbing that was leaking. Back to Home Depot. By the time we got the plumbing all plumb, it was getting late. We had planned on getting the backer-board up and ready for tile, but that didn't happen. We got back to OK about 9:30.
Jesse's first dinner party.

After all that working and planning, Jesse was not able to move in to her new house, because she could not shower there. Did I mention that we bought the appliances that were already in the house? We did, and the inspector supposedly inspected them. Unfortunately, the fridge did not work after all. It looked great, but did not get cold. We worked on it a bit. Jesse called a fridge-man, who said it did not sound worth fixing.

Well, so much for our plans of getting Jesse into her house quickly. But we are a positive sort of folk and plan on hittin' hard next weekend to finish what we started.

You know, that couch looks like something out of a New Yorker magazine, although the pillows look a bit too Texan...

My daughter asked me to help her move, and I hired an apartment mover company for her. Two muscle guys showed up and packed the whole place in two hours and unpacked it in one. Each one was stronger than I ever was in my youth. ...and nothing got broke (her biggest fear). They loaded the fridge last, and pulled it out first, and nothing in it even got warm!

Were they married?

Moving is a pain. David in Kentucky is moving our grandson and wife into their "new" house this weekend. A bit the same, had to have new toilets and the fridge was too big for the spot in the kitchen and cabinets had to be taken out. So we feel for you. It will sure be nice for them to have their own place. By them, I mean Jesse, too. :) You are a great family. Love the couch pillows!

Just keep that up. That's a real nice thing that you are doing for Jesse. Settlement and comfort are the two bestest things you can give to people, both young and old these days, as those are what will give them the starting grounds with which to move forward. Thanks for sharing that! All the best!
