Dull Stuff

This past week was not nearly as exciting as the week before. I didn't run over or hit anything this past week. Today we have a teacher work day and the kids are gone. I'm looking forward to getting some things done. I have no clue what the administration has planned for us today. As long as we get lunch, I will be a happy camper.

Last week my mom took a driving test of sorts. It was not your usual test. It was given by an occupational therapist. The test was scored on your probability of failing a regular driving test with the DMV.  It tested your memory and reaction time and other necessities for driving. So, the higher your grade, the worse your chances of passing a regular test. Mom scored a 93%. She was very sad, but it let her know she did not need to be driving. She let my sister take her car. We kids were all glad. We knew she did not need to be driving, but she would not hear it from us.

So, my sister was in WF for the weekend. Toby and I drove over on Saturday morning for breakfast with the family (brother included) at El Norteno's.  I love Mexican breakfast! We ate so much that we skipped lunch and then ate around 4PM - we ate at Casa Manana. My sister loves Casa Manana, but not me. She calls it Mexican food, but it is not. The good part was getting together with my family again. They are a fun group.

Gotta go to school, now.

Sounds like a “no news is good news week”! I love New Mexican breakfast. Well, migas are OK in Texas. Ha. Not much happening here either. Good news about your mom’s car, but so sad for her to have to give up that independence. I think as we grow older we drive on reflexes and instinct. Not always as alert. Trying to do well, though. Grinning.

Jo,
The no driving thing has been a long time coming. When Mom broke her arm back in June, we were all glad that she was not able to drive. After a while, she drove anyway despite doctor's orders. Scary. It is sad for her and I feel bad for her, but it is a big relief too.

Maybe see if the local taxi has gift cards :-)

I tried (so did my brother) to teach my mom to drive back in the 70's. The problem was, the train was just down at the end of the street. Ma! why drive, you can just get on the train!

Well, the train dropped her off always in the wrong places, so she had to take a bus to the final destination. Sometimes, just calling a taxi made the whole day shorter, but cost more. I peeled off a couple hundred dollars, and told her to call a cab. When she needed more money, let me know.

She just had no aptitude for high density big-city traffic. She would be stopped and 100 horns would be blowing behind us, and I'd say just hit the gas mom, and don't let them see the whites of your eyes.

I've lost my appetite, so it's mostly soup and chili these days, with a couple of cake donuts for fiber :-)

I think you said your Mom was in a retirement home. I was wondering if they have a van or SUV they can take the folks places. Seems like that would be a great selling point for living there.

Hibernating,
Trains, buses, and taxis are not options around here. The independent living place has a van, but that would require planning on my mom's part. Planning is not her strong point.

Anon,
It does and you would think so. She has yet to take advantage of the van.
