Paint in the Park 2022

Every year CTAC puts on a Paint in the Park  - a plein air quick paint. It started years ago when the Art Guild was still a thing, and my buddies and I were trying to make it a more fun group. We had a day of painting at Red Bud Park in Marlow and then had a little judging. It seems like we each paid money to participate and the money went to the best painting. Or something like that! I left the Art Guild soon after that, because it was just not a happy place to be. The Paint in the Park has carried on into the CTAC.

Last year we painted in the downtown area. I really like having more to paint than green grass and green trees. This year, it was held at Fuqua Park and nearby parks. Fuqua has Kiwanas Kiddie Land and an old train station and train. I painted the train. Once again, it was so much more interesting than green.

The PiP was on Saturday morning. Thursday night Bo asked if we could watch the grandkids all day Friday and let them spend the night. I agreed to keep them, but I had to be at the PiP by 8 AM. I took the older two, GBN1 and GBN2, with me. I provided them canvas, paints, an easel , etc. It was a little out of their comfort zone, but I thought they did well. I thought they would probably paint the train with me, but they went their separate ways and chose different views. Alayna, my art student, was also there, as well as Alyssa, a college student who works at CTAC. Both girls are amazing artists.

The judge was an art professor at Cameron University, So Alyssa is one of his students. She got first. I got second, and Alayna got third. There were several other really nice paintings - lots of competition. Truthfully, I didn't think Alyssa's was the best of the paintings, but it was a fun little piece. Alayna chose to paint a homeless guy sleeping in the park gazebo. It was a darn good piece. My good friend Janet also knocked out an exceptional piece. Sigh! Lots of good pieces of art!
 Here is Alyssa's first place.

My second place.

Alayna's third place.

Also a couple of pics of the GGs

Wow, all around. I love your painting of the train!! Your gds are getting so grown up. I just can’t believe it. That was the wow as well as for the paintings. You’ve been a good teacher obviously! Congrats and hugs all around.

Jo,
I knew you would be surprised at how big the GGs were. Lizzie is graduating from high school next week. Truthfully, I have not painted much with them since I quit doing my little girls class. Maybe if Lizzie will get her driver's license, she can drive out and paint with me.

Thanks, Jo. The girls are lots of fun. Maybe not as entertaining as when they were little, but still fun - in a more adult way.
