Gone to the Dogs

My father once said that if there is such a thing as reincarnation, he wanted to come back as one of my dogs. When Jesse was younger she thought the saying was, "It is a doggie dog world" instead of a "dog eat dog" world. In this house, she was right.

Truly I try to make my bed first thing in the morning, but not today. Things have been kind of busy taking around here and my house has gone to the dogs.

Hmmm...your house is a LOT like mine used to be, when it comes to dogs.

And the pic made me smile, bringing back memories of the bed TSMP and I shared with our dogs...which, like all dogs, thought the bed was theirs and as such they barely tolerated TSMP and I. Things could get just a wee bit crowded, what with a terrier (who didn't occupy a lot of space), a Black Lab/Border Collie cross (twice the size of the terrier), and a German Shepard (half again the size of the Border Collie/Lab), TSMP, and I.

And two of those dogs absolutely refused to "sleep in," too. The terrier and the Lab...working in concert...would assault TSMP and I at the flippin' CRACK of dawn each and every morning, pushing their cold noses into our faces repeatedly until one or the other of us would get up and let them out. The shepard, OTOH, would remain sleeping at the foot of the bed until we piled out. Then, and only then, would she get up and follow us downstairs...

I miss my dogs...can you tell? :-)

Sleeping with your Dog

Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep.
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth-
I'm a puppy, don't you see?
For the morning's here
and it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night!

Oh Catherine, you make me laugh. I didn't know you were a poet.

Buck, I bet you got a kick out of Catherine's poem too. I should let you both know that the Great Dane does not sleep with us. She has her own bed beside our bed. But she thinks our bed is "dog heaven". Sleeping with the the rat terrier is like sleeping with a cannon ball. He takes up more than his share of the bed.

ahhh, they look comfortable. Is one of them the Rat Terrier that you talked about?

I love the peom from Catherine. You do have a great group that stops by. Thanks for including me.

I wish I could take credit for the poem, but I can't. I don't know who wrote it, but when I read your blog and saw the picture, Lou, it immediately came to mind and I wanted to share it with all who of us who can relate to dogs as bed partners!

Wonderful picture. They sure look comfy. I liked the poem as well, but I can't relate to it. My dogs aren't allowed in my bed, nor in my bedroom. You see, that's the cat's room. ;)

If I had taken a picture of Jesse's bed, you would have seen the cat asleep on it.
