Paintings of the Week

These watercolors were done on Yupo paper that Michael Fay mentioned on his site. The paper is plastic so the water pools rather than soaking into the paper. It is just pretty wild. The first painting was purely experimental. The second two paintings were smaller and maybe a little more what I wanted to happen. I think my students will love this stuff.

These sure are purty, Sister. I love my "Lou originals" and Catherine hung them right away for us to enjoy.

Lou...these are TERRIFIC! The colors are so vibrant -- they make me happy just looking at them! When things get hectic here at work, I know where I'll be logging on to to lower my blood pressure a few notches! Thanks Lou!

Agree with all of the above: brilliant, in every sense of the word.

So, if the water pools on the paper, rather than soaking in, doesn't that make painting on a easel rather difficult, if not impossible? Do you have to make adjustments in your technique other than my assumption that your paper must be in a horizontal position?

Thanks for all the comments. No one has ever wanted to buy one of my Paintings of the week. Last year I sent them out as Christmas cards. The Duncan art guild is putting on a miniture show in November that I may enter some paintings, but yes, I would sell in a heart beat.

I tend to watercolor on a flat surface or slightly slanted. Sometimes the running paint is good. With this Yupo paper, I have taped it to the table - cheap hotel furniture - since I did not bring a board and the Yupo paper does not like my finger prints.

since vibrant is the word du jour, here's a thought for my favorite...

"the vibrant stairway to heaven"

of course...well, nevermind.

These are very nice. And on the slippery paper. From what I read you can just wipe if off if you don't like it? Very pretty stuff.

Aren't all the flowers in Canada wonderful. Everyone seems to have a garden.

Later,
Jo
