Angel Portait?

This is the portrait that I worked on today. This young man had joined the military and was to leave soon. Unfortunately, he was killed in an accident. His family commissioned a portrait for his mother. Another lady, Janie, was suppose to do the portrait, but her health was not good, and she asked me to do it. His mother apparently dreamed of him in military clothing and angel wings. Janie thought I should do the angel wings, but I'm having difficulty wanting to do them. What do you think?

Just my (not so) humble opinion, but I'm against the Angel Wings. FWIW, and all that.

Joyce, I was thinking that I would show her the painting as is and hopefully not have to do the wings.

Buck, The wings bother me, but I might could blend them with a back ground of some sort. We will see what the mom thinks.

I'm for no wings, but that is me. You could take a photo of it, print it on paper and try the wings on the print and see what you think?? It sure looks nice.

He looks like an angel without the wings; seems those wings are in his heart. Could you paint of pair of wings on a shirt collar or something like that? Just a thought.

Jo, I have copies of the photo on cheap paper. I drew wings on the photo to see what they would look like - great minds think alike.

Catherine, He's such a good looking young man; Jesse says it makes her cry to see the picture.

I like the painting as is, but I think the mama should have the last word.

I vote for no angel wings, but I'm not this young man's mom. If there's some way you could hint or suggest them, I'd be more for it. Just my $.02. It's a beautiful portrait as is.

Thanks for all the imput. Staci has a good point - whatever the mother wants, but hopefully she will like it as is.

Lou, I read this the other day, but am late to the party commenting.

You're the artist here. But, I honestly think it would look "freaky" to have angel wings. I mean, really kinda' spooky.

I'm a definitely "no wings" guy on this one. I don't know how it hurts to lose a child, and she might not be thinking straight, but I'd discourage it.

I like the idea of letting the mother see this one first and then maybe show her what you have sketched on the copy. I personally like it the way it is but the mom is the one that will be looking at it until she passes. Tough call Lou!
