Changes

A few years ago, I posted a story about my friend, Kathy, turning fifty and still being foxy. You can go back and read the story, but here is the gist of the story: when Kathy and I were about 17, we were out running around in her yellow jeep. We pulled up at the post office and she went inside. One of the young men working in RR came up to me and asked me who my "foxy friend" was. It irritated me that he thought I was "cute" but not "foxy" and I refused to introduce him to Kathy. Well, while we were on this trip, we went dancing with friends on Saturday night. In this picture, Kathy had joined the band - yep, she sings too. Some tourist man at the next table asked me to dance while Kathy was singing. Then he proceeded to say, "So, who's your friend..." He didn't say foxy, but I knew what he was saying/asking. Some things never change.

Other things do change. While with Joy and Kathy on this trip, we all laughed about the changes in our bodies over the last 14 years we've been apart. You know, like that part of your body where your cleavage begins - it just doesn't look the same, and mine moved up under my chin. Then we giggled as we jumped to turn up the air conditioner or roll down the windows every time we got in the car. Of course there were the eyes. At one point seven of us were eating at Red's, but no one had any glasses to see the menu. It's a good thang most of us knew the menu by heart.
This picture was taken at Sundance with our friend, Kathy N. I got tickled when we all got out our reading glasses, except for Kathy H - Not only is she foxy, she doesn't need glasses - what's up with that?

Joy and I enjoyed a glass of wine while sitting outside at the Lost Love Saloon. It was not quite the same as sitting on the porch at the old Texas Red's, but it was fun. While we were there, we ran into an old RR friend from back in the 70's. Can anyone guess who this is?
Yep, we have all changed over the years. One person who does not seem to change is Patsy. She may be a grandmother now, but she was beautiful when I met her back in the 70's, and maybe more beautiful now. This was not a great pic of Joy and Kathy, but it was of Patsy (in the middle). We were having a bit of trouble with the camera. Most of the pics turned out dark with us laughing at the photo-taker.

Lou...I might be mistaken, but is that Mark Majors? If it is, I haven't seen him since '77. But who knows...in the past, I haven't recognized people that I thought I would. Guess it's part of getting older :-)

You are right, John. He lives here in OK.

I'm thinkin' ALL y'all broke some hearts... no, make that a LOT o' hearts... along the way.

It also occurs to me that your friend Kathy H. looks a lot like a woman I used to know, now that you've posted more pics of her. She looks strangely familiar but I can't quite put my finger on who it was...

Reading glasses: a major PITA. I'm beginning to wish I hadn't had my eyes fixed, mainly coz I'm lost without those damned reading glasses. But I'm slowly getting to the point where I don't forget 'em when I go out...

Old friends are great, huh Lou?

I get together with my old buds only rarely. We don't talk about how our bodies have changed, though. But, we do ALL need readers to order.

Glad you had such a good time.

Buck, I may have to post some pics of our younger days so you can see us in our prime.

My friend Kathy has lived in Taos for the past 25 years or so. She has three sisters - two of which are in the Alb. area.

Andy,
Men don't talk about their bodies???

Great story, Lou. I'm actually considering going to my 30th HS reunion. I didn't go to any of the others, but since I've been catching up with old friends on FB, I'm beginning to realize that I wasn't as disliked as I'd always thought.

Lou, I'm 51, and as of now, I'll say "no." But, I understand that once old guy friends get a bit older than me and my buddies, the discussion often involves prostate trouble, blood pressure numbers, sugar count, etc.

Oh wait...the last get together we had a couple of the guys went there with the BP. So, I reckon we're getting there.

But, we don't banter back and forth like The Mrs. and her old friends do about saggy boobs & cellulite.

I guess we just don't want to waste a good time by pointing out how much we suck. We all have wives to point that out.

My giggle for today. :)

Gene sent out a story a couple of years ago about going to our high schoold reunion. He said I saw a drunk woman and asked who it was. He said she was an old girlfriend he broke up with. I said, "Wow, can't believe she is still celebrating!"

Anyway, we have never had a reunion and everyone knows we have known each other since we were 2 and 3, so obviously I knew any girlfriends. But.. several people believed the story and one of his sisters wrote, very upset that she hadn't been invited to the reunion! Oh my.

wv for today gralize -- to get older ??

So Andy went and said But, I understand that once old guy friends get a bit older than me and my buddies, the discussion often involves prostate trouble, blood pressure numbers, sugar count, etc.

I guess my friends and I haven't hit that point yet. But we're only in our mid-to-late '60s (I'm the youngest at 66) so there's still time. Gee, I can't WAIT! ;-)

Buck and Andy,
I do remember my dad telling his brother it was time to start trimming the hair growing out of his ears.

Lou, me and my buddies don't talk about such things at 51. We just do it, and hope that nobody noticed before we did.

What a wonderful trip!

Re: changing bodies -- gravity wreaks its vengeance!

Your mention that Kathy can sing, too, reminded me of something my mama used to say when describing a particularly talented friend. Mama said that her friend could paint a masterpiece, cook a meal fit for a king, and play golf with the pros. But she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, so she wasn't perfect!
