We've been working on the counter tops. We even got some tile down in the bathroom. If you look close, you will notice there is no grout yet. Supposedly you need to let it set up for 24 hours. I added this photo to show you the funky lights above the counter. We have a mirror to go in the big blank spot, but it is still in the barn.
Although we got lots done, we were hoping to get some tile down in the kitchen. Unfortunately, we had a day similar to Andy's. Well, maybe not quite as bad as Andy's. We started to put the vent hood up, but needed a stronger backing for it. That meant cutting into the sheetrock and adding a board. We did some taping and bedding, but it will need texture and paint too. This was something that we should have done early on, but sometimes we forget such things and have to backtrack. We worked on that as much as we could; then moved on to install the dishwasher (not pictured). The kitchen sink pictured was something we picked up at a second-hand store - I love it! A few year ago, our son and DIL picked us up a Mexican sink at the Mercado in San Antonio for our future bathroom. Knowing that we wanted two sinks (Toby is a sink hog) we bought another sink last year while in SA. I love these sinks too - all that color!
Anyway, it is coming along. Last night while working on the bathroom tile, we got to a point where we just could not decide what to do - frustrating. Maybe we were just too tired to think. It was one of those moments when I thought of my dad - it was time to drink a cup of coffee and smoke a cigarette and think on it. Instead, we stopped for the night and went to bed.
Toby, Jesse, and I had a good laugh over my dad's way of doing things, or not doing them. Jesse said she was reminded of Pa this week - had a cigarette/coffee moment at school - when trying to load a kiln with other student's work - some of it big and bulky. Apparently it was frustrating dealing with other students too. She said she wanted to say, "Let's stop and have coffee and a cigarette." She and the other kiln loaders did take a break (no cigarette or coffee) and never got the kiln loaded. Speaking of Jes, she just posted some Air Show pics. Her photos are always so much artsier than mine - better camera.
We did get the tile done. After a restful night, our brains were working much better, and we were able to figure it out. Then we sicced Jesse on it. She finished up the bathroom tile doing a bang-up job.
Normally I would not mention college football, but Okie teams sure put it to their opponents today. Now we are watching some Texas Tech vs. A&M and it looks like it might be a good game. I was raised an Aggie fan, but I went to TT. Who to cheer for?? I'll probably be happy no matter who wins.

Lou, the counter and sinks are REALLY doing it for me!
VERY nice...
I mean, VERY!
Hey, A&M finally found somebody they can beat. Just sayin'...
I love the colors! I am glad there's someone else out there who doesn't go for the straight-up "earth tones". You have great taste!
The sinks certainly ARE colorful. So... those sinks, combined with the lighting, would make walking into your bathroom with a hangover first thang in the morning an interesting experience. ;-)
Even tho I never met your Dad I most definitely used the "coffee and a cigarette" method of decision making a LOT in my life. I swear... quitting cigarettes had a HORRIBLE effect on my cognitive abilities, and I'm not kidding. I think I've recovered (somewhat).
Nice progress!
Staci,
Thanks, I do like color.
Andy,
Now and then A&M surprises ya. Just sayin'.
Buck,
There is other lighting in the bathroom besides the bright lights, so maybe it won't be too startling in the mornings.
The coffee and cigarettes thang was always a joke when we were younger, but now it makes much more sense.
I love those sinks! And the countertops and everything else! I especially love that you're doing it.
Yeah, those Okie teams did a little bit of gearing up on their opponents! That's never a bad thing when one of those opponents is Texas. Or Penn State, for that matter.
Moogie,
I certainly don't mind any one beating Texas.
Ah, you guys! It is just that your Texans beat our Texans. LOL
I love the cabinets and the bath counter and sink. Yummy. You will need to spice up my slightly used bathrooms in our new digs. It was built in 2004. The colors are all pretty much earth tones. You know me, I love color. Guess I will have to add murals or some such. Ha.
Jo, I don't like OU any better, but the Aggie in me just doesn't cheer for UT - well, maybe at a baseball game now and then.
What are we going to do with those Aggies running off to the SEC? Can't believe that. I always root for Texas, then Big 12 Aggies and Tech, then the other Big 12 teams down the ladder if Texas isn't involved. 'Course OK is last on the ladder. Ha. We will miss the old rivalry, right? Hard on us old folks to have change.
