Storm Chasers

Toby made a quick trip to Houston - left on Wed and came back last night. It was not quick enough. I thought I was going to get through the time without any incidents - you know those things that happen when your man is away.  But no, I did have something happen.

Both Wed night and last night we had stormy weather. Not only has the wind been blowing - making national news - we have been  having tornado warnings and watches. Hail has been a problem too. Fortunately the storms have gone around the Lazy B and only been threatening.  Yesterday, I spent the day in WF with Mom. We did a bit of shopping and had lunch. I started home about 4 PM. The closer I got to home, the darker the clouds. My DIL and her mom were both calling me and filling me in on the weather warnings, which is a good thang, because the radio  (NPR in Lawton) did not report any bad weather. I made it home easily, with the worst of the weather about ten miles north of me. I could see some low hanging clouds - a very ominous, dark wall.  Like I said, though, it was north of the Lazy B. All we got were strong winds.  But in Marlow and eastward toward Bray and on out Hwy 29 toward Lindz' house, they got hail and very damaging winds. Here is a photo Lindz took. I stole this off FB. Since I was stealin', I stole this one, too. This is Francis her new miniature horse and her best buddy, Remedy, the storm chasin' dog. They made it through the storms safely.  Today we will have more weather. Aieee, I'm tired of this.

As for the happening that made me crazy: I went to feed the chickens (Toby's job). I pulled the truck around to hook up to the rolling chicken coop, since it is too heavy for me to pull on my own. The grass was quite tall where the chicken coop sets, and I had to wade through the grass (I hate chiggers and such).  When I went to get the chicken feeder, there was a dead chicken. I had to pick her up and put her in the back end of the truck to haul her off.  Yuck. I drove out to a gully on the Lazy B, picked her up by the cold dead claw and threw her as far as I could into the gully. More tall grass - more yuck. I really hate dealing with dead critters. When I got back into the house, I took a shower. I should be thankful it was not a skunk. Have I told you that story yet?

Don't you know that's why shovels were made? You should always have one in the back of your truck. Yuck!

I was just so glad that I got to the dead chicken before the dog did. I really did not want him to eat it, and I did not want to have to chase him and get it away from him. There use to be a shovel in that truck...

Well... first of all, I'm glad you're safe. Second, I DON'T miss that kinda WX at ALL.

I've had to deal with dead chickens... I inherited a coop full of the damned things when I bought my house in Choctaw... but the coyotes got every one of 'em. We never replaced 'em. The eggs weren't that good, to begin with.

Our chickens are in a pen that rolls around the pasture - grass fed chickens :) I don't like chickens, but I do like the eggs.

We missed the storms again. OKC seems to be getting the rain and hail and tornado threats tonight. Jesse is in OKC, and said there is lots of rain.

Eeeuuuu on the chicken. I hated taking care of them as a kid. Still not fond of cooking them. No chicken at our house and eggs have to be disguised with chile or something!

This morning Toby was making a smoothie for our breakfast. I caught him starting to put an egg in it. I drew the line.

Does that dog always smile like that?

Remedy knows how to smile for the camera. I like the horse's name.
