Weekend Report - Fun and Not-so-Fun.

This blogging is a vicious circle.  If you want readers, you have to post something. But when you post and get very few comments, it is discouraging, so you don't post. Round and round we go. The truth is I have been lazy. I may think of things to post, but sitting down and doing it is another thang all together. I think my blogging may be light for a while - catch as catch can.

This weekend the GGs and family came over on Saturday afternoon. We blew up the kiddie pool, and they brought their slip-n-slide. It made for fun in the sun. Aunt Jes joined the GGs in the pool making it an even better time. Toby rode by on the motorcycle giving them a target to shoot.
I sat in the shade and rocked Mr. T and watched the fun.  And yes, we did get shot with the water-guns. Toby grilled supper and made daiquiris. The only thing that was not fun was the wind, and it was howling.

On Friday Toby and I went to the doctor to get some of the shots recommended for Ecuador. To say that I am not big on getting shots is putting it mildly. I hate shots. After talking with the Health Dept. in OKC and looking at the Center for Disease Control website, I called a local doctor earlier in the week to see what he could do for us rather than driving to the City for shots. He said he could do a couple of shots here, and we could get meds for malaria and typhoid at the pharmacy. Okay, so I made an appointment to get shots. When the doc came in, he acted like we were there to "discuss" the shots. He asked if we knew what we wanted - he did not know what the recommended shots were. I told him he could look it up as easily as I did. He left the room and eventually came back more knowledgeable. He did say, "At this time of year you might want to consider getting all the shots..." Toby pointed out that Ecuador is on the equator and temps were pretty much the same year around. "Oh yeah." he said. Eventually we decided what shots we would get, and the doc said, "So you want to get those today?" No, we want to pay another forty dollars and come in next week, too. Duh. After another long wait a young lady came in with the shots, and even after I told her my left arm was already sore (pulled muscle), she gave me the tetanus shot in that arm and told me that I should move my arm lots, because it was going to be sore. Sure enough! My left arm has been very sore this weekend. Thanks. Did I mention that I hate shots and getting them makes me very cranky? I was a big baby all weekend.

You and me both. The AF REQUIRED me to stay current and I did everything possible to avoid getting the damned things, all to no avail. But that said, I ALWAYS get my flu shot every year these days... mainly coz getting the flu could be life threatening.

Great pics. Mr. T sure is a cutie!

I know what you mean about comments. When you don't get any, it makes you feel that no one is reading. That gets discouraging. I know people say I blog for myself, but if no one is going to read, I'd just as soon write my thoughts in my private journal.

Shots haven't bothered me since my mother beat the hell out of me when I was 7 and tried to fight the nurse off. That was when I realized that there are worse things than needles.

I have never gotten a flu shot, but I am considering it since it is recommended for travel.

I keep telling myself that this blog is for me, but I do like comments. Then again, it is a bit liberating to not have some readers.

That pool looks really nice. I'm sold, as the heat is on, and I need some cold water to lay in, ha. I always hated those slip-n-murder-your-kids-slides... Seems like every year some kid knocked themselves out on that trying to do a trick. Usually the neighbor kid that you promised to look after...

P.S. When I got my tetanus shot I started rolling up my sleeve, and the nurse said "stop, this one goes in the butt!"

Oh!

Then she relayed that the way to remember that, is that it has "anus" in it :-)

I guess in French that would be "téte anus" or "caca head"...

I've never had a tetanus shot in the butt. I would think caca would have to do with the butt :)

My attempt at humor lost all meaning, ha.

I think my nurse was aiming for the right cheek, but I only had my pants half-way down when she stabbed me with the needle, so I got it in a place that really bugged me all day. I had to put my wallet in the other pocket...

A nurse in Bolivia told us to always take 2 aspirin, 20 to 30 minutes after the shots. Sure helped. Sorry I am too late with this advice!!

I like your pool and slide. Bet the kids had fun .....
