Crazy Booboo

My DIL is in her 25th week of pregnancy and having a bit of trouble with contractions. She must rest and stay off her feet and drink lots of water. Yesterday she asked me to take the GGs to the library for part of their school day. Each GG was doing a report and needed to get books and look at an encyclopedia and do a bibliography card, etc. GBN1 chose Jim Thorpe. GBN2 chose Helen Keller. I was a little rusty on my library skills and even worse on my bibliography cards. At one point, GBN1 said, "I thought you were good at English and would know how to do this." No one is good at bibliography cards! Anyway, we did pretty well. The GGs were actually great - very knowledgeable about our town's library. Between their familiarity with the library and my knowledge for hunting books, we managed. While we were standing in line to check out our books, I pulled up the following photo on my smart phone and showed it to the girls.
They read the caption on the photo and said, "But that is a dog."
"Yes," I said, "It is a joke."
They both looked at me like I was crazy and said, "It is not a very funny joke."
"Yes it is. It is very funny, and you two are not laughing." GBN2 did admit to smiling, but that was probably because I was laughing. Crazy Booboo!

Wow, I had no idea schools today still made kids learn to use real books, much less encyclopedias. Good for them!!!

Good story. Our library didn't even have a card catalog as I recall, or maybe so few books that we just went to the shelves and picked them there. Ha. Nice that they are learning to enjoy books. Love the joke!

The GGs are homeschooled.

GBN1 used the computer to find her book on Thorpe. No more card catalogs.

When I teased the GGs about not laughing at my joke, GBN2 said, "Well, I smiled a little."

Did you know mittens have no fingers. It has a separate sheath for the thumb, but not for other fingers.

The croque-mitaine (hard to pronounce) is French for "mitten-biter" or "hand-cruncher" (not a literal translation of course). He is their Bogeyman (whoooo-oo). My mom said that mittens scared me when I was four. Her stories forced her to buy me the more expensive "gloves" (like Santa) Ho Ho Ho.

On a completely different topic, the first food I ate in Lorraine was a croque-madame. You can also get a croque-monsieur but it doesn't have a fried egg on top. When I was stationed in Ramstein, Germany one trooper was assigned to drive to Saarbrücken every morning (border with France) to get a big box of croque-mesdames for our flight-line breakfast. Basically a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, but cheeses in Europe are to die for. They don't pour on the salt like here in the colonies (not to mention, the Ham also tastes better). Gad, I'm hungry now...

Anyway, that's enough of my croque for one jour, tag, dia, er day....
