Art Reception and Fingerprints

Maybe you have seen the little thing on FB that says something like, "They should make an alarm clock that sounds like a dog throwing up, because nothing gets you up quicker." Well, it is the truth!  Ask me how I know.  I won't horrify you with the details, although it was not nearly as bad as the time Max, the great Dane, threw up a rabbit on the porch. Still, anytime a great Dane throws up, it is not good.

I have spent the last several days trying to get my teacher certificate updated/renewed.  You would think that since I will only be teaching one half-day a week, that a certificate would not be important. But you'd be wrong.  The powers that be seem to think I need my certificate to teach art one half-day a week. And yet, after a conversation updating the Boss Lady on getting said certificate, I asked her, "I am I actually getting this job, am I actually starting teaching with you...?" Hmm, it seems I am not officially hired.  "Getting me paid" is the problem according to the Boss Lady - whatever that means.  In the meantime, I have shelled out $120 bucks on getting my certificate renewed as well as a couple of trips to the county courthouse to get fingerprinted and a background check initiated. Since I have had my fingerprints done for my conceal/carry and I have had them done three years ago when I taught at Comanche, you would think they could just look up my fingerprints and do a background check.  But no, the secretary at the sheriff's dept. said that the civil prints do not stay in the system.  I told the officer doing my prints that if I committed a crime, I bet they would find my prints in the system. He just smiled.

I am also trying to get ready for the Kick-off art reception at the Chisholm Trail Arts Council this Saturday. I've been helping hang the art for Saturday's reception and show.  There will be some good art.  There is also the hospital cancer patient art, which is interesting.  I actually dropped one of these little paintings behind a heavy counter while trying to hang it. Then I couldn't seem to get it out. Then I knocked over a chair while trying to get the painting - causing a loud bang. My face had white dust all over it from pressing my cheek up against the wall trying to see the painting behind the counter.  I had the ladies at the CTAC laughing hard.  I do try to be entertaining.

I made an appointment to get my hair cut, but I may cancel it. I can't decide :)

A mess on the fingerprints. You are right, they would find them if you did something wrong. I was fingerprinted in Lubbock for a volunteer job. Had to walk by the cages at the County Jail. Not fun…..

The art show sounds nice. You are a great volunteer. You always make things fun.

They need your fingerprints so they can identify the body. You might get your dental x-rays updated also.

Jo,
Years ago when we did our conceal/carry fingerprints, we did have to walk by some prisoners that were being moved around (or something). Usually, the policeman comes and gets you to take you to the little room and do the fingerprints and you don't see anyone else. It is rather awkward to be in a little room with just you and the officer/stranger with him holding your hand, rolling your fingers around on a computer. You have to stand awfully close for that. And me trying to make conversation to fill in the gaps.

Schools...,
If I'm dead and gone, I probably won't care that they identify me. Kind of like I don't care if they want to do a background check, but I resent having to pay for it.

I like Schools comment!

No wonder people don't work when they have to pay so much to apply for a job! Good for you.

I'm so old they were still using ink pads and cards when my prints were taken.

When I worked for Northrop they paid for my fingerprints at the County Jail. It was antiquated. Still used ink, a typewriter to fill out the thick paper form. The lady yanked my hand and said "don't be shy". ha. She was close enough to step on my toes. I was going to say something, but decided I best keep quiet, so in and out quick...

I had a thought - start a Go Fund Me page for becoming a "last chance" teacher and getting your criminal background check paid for! Offer a signed painting for donations over $1K.

Etienne, I'm not sure I want a job that bad.
